A thrilling battle in the final of the Red Mills Masters at Waterford on Saturday night saw Piercetown Sand just deny Sparta Maestro to claim the €13,000 prize.
Sparta Maestro led them around the first two turns but Piercestown was always in close company and stole the lead after they both tangled entering the back straight.
Piercetown kicked on to lead by 3l down the back but Sparta Maestro had found his rhythm again and was closing right up as they turned for home. But not to be outdone Piercetown dug deep and clung on the slimmest of margins, with a photo needed to decided the winner. Dream Walker came home in third. The winning time was 29.61.
