EDEN STAR, has been withdrawn from the Williamhill.com English Derby  after he tore a shoulder muscle during his first-round heat victory on Saturdaynight. It’s a cruel blow for connections and trainer  Barrie Draper as he was 9-1 fourth-favourite to win the competition outright.

There are 131 entries for the 2012 Williamhill.com English Greyhound Derby which gets underway at the ‘Don on Friday 27th of April. The draw for the first round was made earlier today and is listed below.

The following heats will have five qualifiers 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 18, 19, 21
All others have four quaifiers, heat 13 is for five runners only

Tyrur Big Mike produced a tremendous battling performance to claim the €25,000 College Causeway/ Killahan Phanter Easter Cup final at Shelbourne Park on Saturday night.

After leading up to the bend, Big Mike drifted very wide and Kingo showed ahead as they turned the second bend, but from halfway Big Mike kicked on again and despite going wide again on the final turn he found enough to hold off Razldazl George in 2nd and Kingo back a length and a half in third. The winning time was 29.73.

Last Saturday night, greyhound racing phenomenon Milldean Panther set Curraheen Park, Cork  abuzz when clocking 27.87 in a pre-racing trial, a time one spot faster than the previous National Record set at Drumbo Park by Leeview Jet.

This trial was in advance of his run in the 12 dog Formula One Grand Prix at the same venue this coming Saturday night.

FOUR of Ireland’s top greyhound racing stadia will open for the first time on Good Friday, April 6.
Greyhound stadia are among the few licensed venues to be exempt from the Good Friday restrictions on the sale of alcohol.   Tradtionally no racing is held on Good Friday but this year Limerick, Harold’s Cross, Curraheen Park and Galway will be open for business and all venues are sure to enjoy bumper crowds.

Askeaton GAA are going to the Dogs in Limerick Friday the 9th December!

To assist with the costs incurred with purchasing and developing a new training pitch and associated facilities Askeaton GAA are embarking on a major fundraising drive. As part of this fundraising initiative they have organised a great nights entertainment at the new Limerick Greyhound Stadium which is situated on the Dock Rd in Limerick.
